Freaks & Geeks D&D

Here's the most sympathetic portrayal of the game we love in popular media. The writer's clearly knew what they were talking about right down to the 1E items referenced in the episode. In this episode James Franco's stoner character plays D&D with the titular geeks.

This was also the last episode in the series "Dungeons & Discos".

  1. Freaks & Geeks was a really good show. The actor that plays the DM in the episode, according to the DVD commentary, is a gamer and the show's "expert." James Franco supposedly played with his group a few times so he could get it "right" for the scene.

  2. That was a pretty cool clip. Perhaps I should try watching "Freaks & Geeks" sometime...

  3. A great clip but the cover of the PHB they had on the table is anachronistic for a series set in 1980-81 :)

  4. James: I noticed that too!

There are much bigger goofs in the series that break the period illusion. Almost the last shot in the series has a old VW van which passes another car on the road which is clearly from the 1990s.
